If you wish to read your Kindle books on other devices, you can do it without any difficulties with Amazon's Kindle app. It is available for all popular smartphones, tablets and computers, which means that you may purchase a Kindle book once and read it on any platform you want, at any time. The application is quite comfortable and it has a good selection of interesting tools to offer.

When you launch the application for the first time, you will have to sign into an Amazon account or create a new one, for obvious reasons. The covers of your purchased books are displayed in the largest area of the user interface and you can filter them to display downloaded or archived items. Additionally, you can organize your books in collections, which you may create on the left side of the window. The application can take you directly to Amazon, on your default browser and if you buy a new book, it will appear on the user interface automatically.

Books can be opened instantly, by simply double clicking their entries. Their pages are displayed just like in a standard document reader, but you don't have to interact with too many controls. You can flip through the pages by clicking the arrows on the left and right margins of the window or by touching them or actually flipping the pages with your finger, if you have a touchscreen device.

The available options allow you to set bookmarks, change a few font and paragraph settings to make your reading experience more comfortable and to navigate to specific pages faster and easier. If a book has a table of contents, you can use it to jump to one of the listed pages. Alternatively, you can jump to any page you want, by specifying its number in a small box. It is also possible to search for words or phrases in the entire book.

Kindle's content handling features are definitely worth mentioning. If you click or touch a word, a definition will pop up instantly. Furthermore, any selected word or phrase can be highlighted, notes can be attached to them and you can also look them up in other dictionaries or on Google or Wikipedia.

Besides the fact that Kindle makes it easy to resume a book, due to its bookmarking and searching features, the application takes it even further with its synchronization capabilities. It can synchronize your bookmarks, notes and other elements between different devices. As a result, you may start reading on one device and continue on a different one.

Pros

Kindle lets you synchronize your bookmarks and other elements from your Kindle books across different devices. It can provide you with definitions for any word instantly. The application is comfortable, easy to use and it is offered free of charge.

Cons

The user interface lacks a scroll bar, which can make panning up and down on a page a bit tricky for some people. The possibility of reading the same books, with the same bookmarks and notes on any devices, anywhere in the world is just a fraction of what Kindle has to offer.
