The term “Kindle” may refer to hardware – the Amazon Kindle e-book reader to be more precise. The term “Kindle” may also refer to software – the Amazon Kindle applications that are available for multiple platforms. With Kindle for PC you can manage a collection of books and read all the books in the collection, all from the comfort of your desktop computer.

As mentioned above, the Kindle software is available for multiple platforms. It is available for desktop machines powered by Windows (XP, Vista, or 7), Windows 8, or Mac OS X. It is available for smartphones: iPhone and iPod, Android, Windows Phone, or Samsung smartphones. It is also available for tablets: iPad, Android, Windows 8, or Samsung tablet.

The left hand side of Kindle’s interface lists all the books in your Library and all your Collections. The right hand side of the interface presents all the books in your Library or Collections. By default, the books are presented as tile view; if you want, you can easily switch to list view. By default, the books are sorted by most recent; if you want to, you can easily switch to another sorting method: by title, by author, by type.

From a functionality point of view, Kindle for PC has the following to offer: manage a library of books; manage collections of books; read books on your PC; view dictionary definitions for words; show notes and marks; manage your Kindle; sync and check for new items; leave the application and shop for books in the Kindle Store.

The Kindle application is freeware.

Easily manage your collection of books from the comfort of your desktop PC with the Kindle software.

Pros

The Kindle software is available for multiple platforms: desktop PCs and Macs, smartphones, and tablets. Kindle for PC has a user friendly, easy to use interface. Easily manage a library or books, conveniently read the books in your collection from the comfort of your desktop PC. The Kindle software is freeware.

Cons

None that I could think of.
